It has come to the GodsComm Admins Attention that Ikariam.com has account thieves actively stealing private information as well as accounts. To better protect yourself , please do some or all of the following
1. Change Passwords Frequently
2. Don't Use the same password for email and account
3. if you have a board account switch your email to "hide my email"
4: beware of websites that may be questionable,
5: NEVER go to sites that promise you free stuff for ikariam
6: Make your your password strength is Strong
TIPS:
How safe is your password?
The first step in protecting your online privacy is creating a safe password - i.e. one that a computer program or persistent individual won't easily be able to guess in a short period of time.
Tips for creating a secure password:
* Include punctuation marks and/or numbers.
* Mix capital and lowercase letters.
* Include similar looking substitutions, such as the number zero for the letter 'O' or '$' for the letter 'S'.
* Create a unique acronym.
* Include phonetic replacements, such as 'Luv 2 Laf' for 'Love to Laugh'.
Things to avoid:
* Don't use a password that is listed as an example of how to pick a good password.
* Don't use a password that contains personal information (name, birth date, etc.)
* Don't use words or acronyms that can be found in a dictionary.
* Don't use keyboard patterns (asdf) or sequential numbers (1234).
* Don't make your password all numbers, uppercase letters or lowercase letters.
* Don't use repeating characters (aa11).
Tips for keeping your password secure:
* Never tell your password to anyone (this includes significant others, roommates, parrots, etc.).
* Never write your password down.
* Never send your password by email.
* Periodically test your current password and change it to a new one.
There are at least 3 players accounts that i know of today that have been hacked.
Some of you know the Spamlord McNuggle, his account was hacked while me fact and him as well as countless others were chatting in EVIL (Beta) Vent channel
They did catch 1 culprit today
06.08.2009 - 06.08.2010 Itsch Account Theft (J Constantine)
a few notes: This Itsch guy recieved this account not by getting the ikariam password but by hacking HOTMAIL, at which point he just requested password.
the Admins of Ikariam has had this to say via PM.
they suggest that you not use YAHOO or HOTMAIL as they are Extremely vulnerable to hackers.
The only Suggestion for Email from the admins is Gmail. so if you have account tied to Hotmail or Yahoo the Godscomm staff would like you to invest in a Gmail account even if it is just for the game and the boards. we dont want you to have to go through what we witnessed McNuggle go through tonight.
Sorry for how long this message is, but it is urgent.
