Changes next Patch
From people in my other alliances on other servers I am told to build up my walls before the patch comes out because it will be drastically different. Can I get some confirmation on that? And of so, we all need to gear toward building up walls and towns ASAP.

Re: Changes next Patch
This is true. I would recommend this. Walls and your town hall will cost A LOT more come the new update.

Sized 24 walls are the affordable limit right now. Tougher to say regarding town hall sizes though. I think we have roughly a month before implementation.

Re: Changes next Patch
There are a great many more changes to come for the game... A complete list can be found on the boards at the following web address:
http://board.ikariam.com/thread.php?postid=395378#post395378
Some of them seem great, some seem a bit backwards, but hey who am I to talk?!

Re: Changes next Patch
Can someone post a list of the new building costs from the ikariam in-game help on the test server? I'm particularly interested in the following:
Warehouse
Palace/GR
Tavern
Museum
Also, it's not clear to me from the upgrade announcement whether the warehouse's safe storage limits are being increased or not. Any ideas?

Re: Changes next Patch
So as I understand it, pillaging will no longer provide gold. That means there are only two remaining ways to generate gold:
1. Trade
2. Surplus population
Which of these is going to be easier in the new build? I am thinking wine towns have it that much easier to become massively huge now if they use the Winery (to boost production) or the Wine Cellars (to decrease consumption), or both; especially if the soft cap on Town Halls is being lifted.
Trading I think could become more complicated/dangerous. Having a lot of goods on hand to sell could invite raiders. Seems to me like a standing offer to sell, for example, 5000 marble would be a big advertisement saying "PILLAGE ME, AS I HAVE AT LEAST 5000 MARBLE FOR YOU TAKE." There is no longer any protection from a small port. And it doesn't sound like the warehouses are going to offer substantial sheltering of goods either.
I'm guessing the new version will result in much more militarized worlds. Get ready to build up those armies and navies.

Re: Changes next Patch
Well, as much as it pains me I had to demolish one of my marble towns. I exported all the marble as I disassembled it so I didnt lose it all but I did lose a lot of time invested in building it up. I started a sulfur colony near the 50:50 region. Now I just have to build it up as fast as I can!

Re: Changes next Patch
They are honestly going to have to look hard at taking away our ability to loot gold. I have seen a proposal asking that they reduce the amount you can take by half, which is a great suggestion. However, I don't see how getting gold from a surplus population is going to work when it costs so damn much to increase the size of your town halls (Not to mention one person makes only 3 gold now as opposed to 4). I understand the reduction of upkeep will help a lot, but people are just going to need bigger armies now. Trading is fine and all, but are the players that loot a ton of resources from pillaging going to have to buy your resources? Most likely not, and people are going to definitely pillage a ton if you can steal all of someones resources. Large military's are a must in the new world, and by large, I'm thinking 10,000 plus general score just to ward off attackers.

Re: Changes next Patch
One thing I have noticed playing on the test server is that new people are at a major disadvantage. People can basically pillage you at will and take everything you have until you get big enough to defend yourself. My account is still very new and i cant build anything cause it keeps getting pillaged from me and i cant defend myself cause i cant get sulfur.

Re: Changes next Patch
Which leads me to believe that when the patch is released, a new server will also be released. That's the only thing that would make sense to me.

Re: Changes next Patch
Everyone keeps saying that a bigger military will be necessary, but I don't see how that will be feasible. If you can't loot gold anymore, and the gold growth will be cut down, there will be no way to procure the money necessary to pay a larger army. I've got a nearly 10k army, and it costs 25k gold per hour more than I produce. If I can only make extra gold through selling goods, then procuring that 25k per hour would be impossible. The people around me won't buy my stuff simply because they will know that not buying will reduce my army. Even now I've had goods on the market 24/7 for a month, and I have NEVER come even close to supplying a tenth of that 25k per hour requirement. If they do stop the ability to get gold through pillaging, then militaries will have to shrink in size.

Re: Changes next Patch
This raises another good point though. Buy trade ships now before access to gold (from pillaging) gets cut!

Re: Changes next Patch
Actually you may not want to do that because the cost of trade ships is going to drop a lot. If anything try and save your gold then buy them at the new price.

Re: Changes next Patch
It was in the discussion of 3.0 on the Ikariam board. I have no clue what page, I think within the first 10 pages after it was released on the test server.
